I always used to sharpen our chains by hand, no guide, just the file. They were okay, but I knew they could be better.

I decided to buy the sharpening kit from Husqvarna and what a great little tool it is! My chains are as sharp as new, and it only takes me 15-20 minutes max to do a 18" chain still mounted to the bar.

The Husqvarna chain sharpening kit cost me $35 CDN, but it's well worth the money! The roller guide is a great idea, gives the right angles, and a cinch to use. Beats anything else I have ever tried.

Thanks Darrell for sharing your experience with the Husqvarna chain sharpening kit.

I've used hand held chain sharpeners in the past but the one I tried did not have the roller guide making it hard to file the chain at the correct angle. This model you have looks like it is much more user friendly.

I ended up buying a bench mounted chain sharpener from Harbor Freight which I love and it's worked great for the last 10 years but the bench mounted sharpener requires removing the chain from the saw which can be time consuming and doesn't allow you to touch up the chain while you're in the woods.

I'll have to give the sharpening kit from Husqvarna a try!
